Things are hotting up!
Hello Hobos (and other esteemed members)!
What a great day we had on Saturday (excluding the rugby of course). Hobo Day was the usual blend of camaraderie, great food, raucous partying and general let-your-hair-down fun. We had a great turnout despite several key members being away and our Senior League guys playing away in the finals. The compliments poured in with the food being a particular highlight. As usual we have to thank Gigi, Jorge and the team from Harbour Fish and Grill for once again sponsoring the espetadas and wors. It was especially tender and tasty this year. Please support this marvellous establishment. They have a special espetada evening on the 20th October, so go and feast!
Our Senior League team managed a draw in the final on Saturday, but lost due to more games conceded. Well done, guys. We are proud of your fighting spirit in unpleasant, windy conditions! Next year we will go one better and win everything again. Thanks to all our league players for holding the Reading name high this year!
A big date to remember is Saturday, 12 November. It is Captain vs Vice Captain’s Day. As usual a quality golf shirt and meal will be included in the fee. More importantly, the prizegiving will include trophies for all the various competition winners over the past 18 months. All winners are requested to attend please. This includes the following:
• Summer and Winter Club Champs including seniors, juniors and all 3 divisions
• Silver Trophy
• Solly Wolpert Trophy
• Committee Cup
• Johnny Weinberg Doubles Knockout (Winners and Runners-up)
• Joe Sher Singles (Winner and Runners-up)
• Herman Rosen Trophy
• Fun awards to be announced
We would like all recipients to be present, so if you can, please make the effort to play on the day and attend the prizegiving. A committee has been established to work on the day and it promises to be a special day, being back in November where it always used to be. Note that some awards will be from the past 2 years as the last Captain vs Vice Captain was some 18 months ago due to the date change. See you all here.
Another date to remember is the 22nd October. Heather and her Entertainment Committee have come up with another fun-filled idea – Mini Olympics! All in 1 room and not involving any major exertion, this is aimed at having a good laugh, so come along and support us! Teams are welcome. Contact Heather on 076 972 1551 for more information.
The Rand Water pipeline is progressing very well in the car park. The blasting occurred on Friday afternoon and the pipe is now being installed.
This Sunday we are proud to host the Ekurhuleni Seniors at Reading. Our seniors are all welcome to play. It promises to be a good day.
Our pizzas are selling very well and the demand is growing daily. We have pizzas available on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Give them a try. You will be very pleasantly surprised!
Have a great week.
Dave and the Team
