Our course is back, better than ever!

Hi everyone

Firstly, may I say what a pleasure it was to be part of this wonderful club on Saturday! We re-opened the new 9th green with a full field and everyone played in high spirits and finished before dark. This was followed by a festive picture-taking with all our members on the 9th green. President Tony Lovesay and our longest serving member, Allan Sher did the honours of cutting the ribbon and declared the hole and new course open. Feedback was universally positive and the new hole proved a real challenge, but in a good way. The party afterwards was a huge “jol”, with everyone staying to see who would win the Must-Win R5 000 Barrel of Fortune. After 3 hours of half-hourly draws, Mrs Jill De Kooker was the lucky winner of the money! Hearty congratulations!

The party continued into the early hours and member Dave Begg once again excelled with his live music. Joseph’s steak rolls were, as my late Dad used to say, “as tender as a woman’s heart”, and we sold a lot! A truly memorable evening! Thanks to everyone for taking the time to attend.

A reminder that if you have not paid your subs or made a personal arrangement with someone in the club office, you are considered a defaulter. Please make an effort to pay. Debit orders are available so it does not have to be a lump sum. Resignations are not applicable during the year. You need to resign by 31st December of the preceding year otherwise you are liable for subs in full as per the Constitution of the Club. Thanks for your co-operation in this regard.

A reminder that the League Fundraiser takes place on Sunday, 15th May. All league players are requested to put a 4-ball together and support the day. It will be great fun and funds raised go towards league expenses. Non-league players are obviously also very welcome to play!

We would like to welcome our newest member of staff to Reading. Victor Rottcher joined us this week as the new F&B Manager after a 2 month-long search. He brings a wealth of experience with him and we are confident he will fit in perfectly and add great value to Reading. We wish him every success. Please give him a warm Reading welcome.

A reminder that the Bowls AGM takes place on Sunday, 22nd May 2016 and the Club AGM on Wednesday, 8th June 2016. Please diarise these dates. More details closer to the time.

Also diarise the 20th of May 2016. We are planning a night time putting competition for everyone, bowlers included! It promises to be a fun evening.

Lastly, a very happy Mother’s Day to all our moms this Sunday. We hope and trust you will be treated and have a lovely day. I suggest a nice game of golf followed by a delicious meal and some relaxing sundowners at the Club. Also happy Ascension Day today (Thursday) to all our Christian members.

Cheers,
David & the entire Reading Family
