Heritage Day Braai!
After Sunday’s icy wind, it is back to balmy spring weather and we are super busy!
This Saturday is Heritage Day and all our staff will once again dress traditionally – an annual Reading favourite! Show your appreciation for their efforts, even if it is just a kind word. We are having a members’ braai instead of the usual month-end steak rolls. There will be braai packs on sale and pap and sous, with salad and rolls. Cost will be R65 a head. Simply pay at the bar, collect your meat pack, go and braai and help yourself to pap, salad et al. It will be informal and “lekker!” Wayne will play some music too. The 100 Club is also on Saturday. Good luck to all.
We are currently re-looking at Friday evenings. I have received a letter from 1 member with some interesting suggestions and other ideas are welcome. Obviously we will have to decide what to do at committee level, but at this early stage, all suggestions are welcome. Drop me a mail. We want the bar full on Friday nights. Let your creative juices flow.
Our pizza oven is now in action. Pizzas will be available on member days, namely Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As mentioned last week, this is a learning curve for everyone and the capacity is somewhat limited by the size of the oven, but give this a try. They are prepared fresh and delicious! It is first come, first served, so if you have to wait a little, have a drink and enjoy the view from the stoep!
Times for pizzas will be as follows:
• Wednesday, 16h00 – 19h00
• Friday, 16h00 – 20h00
• Saturday, 12h00 – 19h00
• Sundays and public holidays, 12h00 – 18h00
NB! The last section of pipeline is going to be installed in the next few weeks. Work starts this coming Monday, 26th September, coinciding with hollow-tining which is a nice quiet week. This is the section through the parking lot, so it will present a challenge. You will have 3 options with parking, namely:
• Enter the big gate as normal and park in the “visitors” parking and what is left of the members parking area on that side of the servitude, as well as along the fence under the trees along the 9th. We have arranged for some bluegums to be removed in this area next week to free up extra space. This would be the best option for all golfers. We will then have a pathway around the cart sheds near the 10th tee to the clubhouse and pro shop. This will be marked.
• Enter the parking lot in front of the clubhouse through the gate next to the substation and generator. This will be limited as much of this area is traditional committee parking. The committee bays will only be for committee members on Saturdays and Sundays during construction however. Bowls parking will fall away completely. No illegal parking in areas other than demarcated bays as this will completely block traffic. Please assist us with order in this area.
• The bowlers will all be parking in the overflow parking on the far side of the bowling greens for the duration of the construction.
We have arranged extra security for all gates and I appeal to everyone to assist with patience and consideration during this final phase. We wanted it to happen during winter when there were less functions, but it didn’t work out that way unfortunately. We are very busy with functions now, so please exercise patience if you are forced to park further away than you are used to. Thanks to everyone in advance.
Monday is hollow-tining which takes 2-3 days. The greens will be sandy and a little slow for the next week or two, but please come and play anyway. It is the same for everyone and the great part of it is, you can give your putt an almighty whack and not get past the hole – an entirely different challenge to the norm! We have arranged with Germiston if anyone wants a game next Wednesday at R175.
Don’t forget Hobo Day – 8th October. The list is on the noticeboard so enter your teams there. It will be amazing as always.
Congratulations to 4 of the course staff who recently passed the Turf Course that they attended, passing with flying colours – we are very proud of them.
We have a number of gas appliances that are in urgent need of good servicing. If you know a qualified referral – who can quote us on servicing these appliances, please contact me at the office on (011) 907 8906/7/8.
Have a fantastic week. See you all at the club and again, please be patient with the parking while Rand Water finish up with the pipeline.
