Latest News – Lots of functions, farewell Chris and bumper Spring ahead

Manager’s Word Hello everyone, I don’t know about you, but I am feeling Spring drawing near… That biting cold is gone (I could be speaking too soon here…) and we are gearing up for our busiest Spring season yet. There are many great golf days to support, some fantastic Club evenings to enjoy and lots of functions to help fill the coffers, so we have a lot to be grateful for. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a proper farewell to Chris Jovaras, our Food and Beverage Manager. Chris has been at “Reading” for 5 years, a long time in this industry. In that time he has created an efficient, well oiled (No pun intended!) department. The quality of food has been excellent, consistency and cleanliness always up to scratch and his ability and willingness to assist, whether it be members or guests, has been impressive. In the year and 8 months I have worked with him, he has made my job a great deal easier with his easy going manner and the way he gets things done with a minimum of fuss. Often we take people for granted and only realize how good they were once they are gone. Chris is definitely one of those. He will be missed by staff, members and guests alike and I would like to wish him every success in his new venture in Mossel Bay. Good luck Chris and thank you for everything you did for “Reading”! It did not go unnoticed. This weekend is Winter Club Champs. It’s your last chance to enter, so speak to the guys in the Pro Shop and give it a try. Saturday afternoon and Sunday Morning will see some serious competition! Good luck to everyone taking part. Friday the 22nd August is our Donkey Derby. These evenings are always BIG fun! You can book a table with me on and remember, family and friends are welcome! Heather and I will have all the details for you next week on buying of horses, betting and so on, but be assured, this is one “jol” you don’t want to miss! Another fun event happens 2 weeks later on Friday 5th September. It’s the Club Spring Party! The theme is “Flower Power” and there will be prizes for best dressed, great food and fantastic live music, courtesy of the talented Dave Begg. Put that in your diaries now. Bookings already welcome too. A reminder that we need comments both good and bad about our caddies. We would like to improve the service they provide, but need your feedback to do so. Please drop me a quick mail if you received good service or have anything that needs improvement regarding the caddies. There is also a “feedback” link on our website at Speaking of the website, it has been redesigned and we are rather pleased with the results. Take a few minutes and go and have a look. Anyone interested in sponsoring a Tee Box and reaching 40 000 golfers a year is welcome to contact me for more information. The Caddy Shack upgrade is also available for a potential sponsor. The bridge on the 16th is virtually complete. A final word of thanks to Ian Brown for his tireless efforts in managing this project, Logan Lofstedt and Basil Keevy of Odyssey Steel for their generous donation and to Morris Moffatt and Greenkeeper – Sean and his team, well done! We have built a structure that will last for generations to come! It has been a pleasure dealing with all of you. Thanks. Have a great week and don’t forget to say cheers to Chris over the weekend. Best Wishes, David
