Reading boasts league successes
Reading Country Club can, with good reason, boast about their successes on the golf course. Their league teams, including their caddie league team, have shown remarkable depth and determination by winning almost all Ekurhuleni league divisions in 2013/2014 and showing good form this year.
Club captain Bradley Mower says this is an outstanding accomplishment considering the depth and resources that some of the bigger, wealthier clubs in the region have.
The Scratch League 1st team, under leadership of Clinton Stolz, won the Premier Division in 2014 and went on to represent Ekurhuleni in the northern finals where they finished fourth. Bradley captains the 2nd scratch league side. They won their division and were promoted into the Premier Division for 2015.
The Betterball League team, under captaincy of Brian Johnston and Mike Payne was not to be outdone and won their league convincingly in 2013. It looks like they are on the hunt for another season victory this year and are currently fourth in the log.
Johan Tait ensured that his team of “senior” golfers was not to be outshone by the younger generation and led them to a victory in the senior league in 2013. The 2014 chase is on and they currently first in their division.
The fairer sex showed incredible determination with the Ladies Sunday League, under captaincy of Maggie Thomas, winning their division both in 2013 and 2014. Magda van Zyl captains the Tuesday League. They won their division in 2013 and were promoted to the Tuesday 1st Division for 2014. They are currently 3rd on the log.
Four of the regular caddies at the club proved they can do more than just carry golf clubs, by winning the Caddie League for a third year in a row. Patrick Memela captains this team.
